Every year when the oysters are at their best, Bluff at the southern-most point of the Island, holds a special festival to celebrate the harvest. And come May 20 locals and visitors line up to get their fill from these big juicy Oysters.
Other specialties are also offered, such as mutton birds a local favorite, fresh seafood, and other wild foods. Although Oysters are the main focus of the festival, they have great music, eating competitions, and awards are given. I would love to experience this Festival, New Zealand definitely has a lot to offer not only for locals but tourist also.
