Climbing with a guide

Postby Alexandoy » Sun May 21, 2017 11:26 am

For first timers in climbing, do you think it is necessary to hire a guide or is it okay to just go with your friends who are not amateur climbers anymore? I am asking this because I was once invited to a climbing expedition in a tropical mountain. But since I don't know how to use the gear like piton and the ropes, I declined for I might just stall their speed of climbing.

I am not sure if one can go for climbing with people who have no idea of climbing so I think hire a climbing guide is the best strategy for first time climbers. I suggest you to hire someone that has necessary skills in climbing and skiing. Rock climbing or mountain climbing is a technical art which needs special training and doing that without a formal training could harm you seriously.

Hiring a climbing guide is the ideal choice for me. I don't know anything about climbing and I wouldn't want my friends to slow down their process just because of me amd of course I would want an expert to only focus on me. My friends could probably get distracted so I would probably be afraid anyway and not go through with the experience.

I only use a guide when I go to some place where I don't feel 100% safe.

I don't like to venture myself into places where I'm not used to, so... To avoid any kind of unpleasant surprise (which obviously would be very bad thing to happen), I always try to be accompanied by a guide.

After I already know the place, I feel more relaxed to go alone. 8-)

I think if one is not experienced person they should go with someone who have all knowledge regarding the climbing. Sometimes it can be risky if we don't do it properly. So yes proper guidance is important in it. If climbing is easy one who hasn't risk involved then it is other thing.
